Summary

Now in paperback—Carlene O'Connor's fifth book in the USA Today bestselling Irish Village Mystery Series sends Garda Siobhán O'Sullivan to a superstitious rural village for a murder investigation in which the prime suspects happen to be fairies。。。

Family is everything to Siobhán: her five siblings; her dearly departed mother for whom the family business, Naomi's Bistro, is named; and now her fiancé, Macdara Flannery。 So precious is her engagement that Siobhán wants to keep it just between the two of them for a little longer。

But Macdara is her family, which is why when his cousin Susan frantically calls for his help, Siobhán is at his side as the two garda rush from Kilbane to the rural village where Susan and her mother have recently moved。 Unfortunately, tragedy awaits them。 They find Susan, who is blind, outside the cottage, in a state。 Inside, Aunt Ellen lies on her bed in a fancy red dress, no longer breathing。 A pillow on the floor and a nearby teacup suggest the mode of death to their trained eyes: the woman has been poisoned and smothered。 Someone wanted to make sure she was dead。 But who?

Devout believers in Irish folklore, the villagers insist the cottage is cursed—built on a fairy path。 It turns out Ellen Delaney was not the first to die mysteriously in this cottage。 Although the townsfolk blame malevolent fairies, Siobhán and Macdara must follow the path of a murderer all too human—but just as evil。。。

O’Connor’s exceptional fifth Irish Village mystery (after 2019’s Murder in an Irish Pub) takes Kildane, County Cork, garda Siobhán O’Sullivan and her fiancé, Det。 Sgt。 Macdara Flannery, to the remote village of Ballysiogdun。 At the cottage of Ellen Delaney, Macdara’s aunt, they’re greeted by Ellen’s grown daughter, Jane, who says she returned home from a weekend in Dublin to find her mother dead。 A broken window points to a break-in; other evidence suggests Ellen was poisoned and smothered。 Siobhán and Macdara must work to gain the trust of the superstitious locals, who wanted Ellen’s cottage destroyed because it posed a danger being in the middle of a fairy path。 O’Connor does a fine job depicting the complex relationship between the spunky Siobhán, who’s troubled by Jane’s failure to provide an alibi for her well-timed weekend away, and the reserved Macdara, who’s reluctant to acknowledge his cousin may have something to hide。 Cozy readers will have a hard time putting this one down。 Agent: Evan Marshall, Evan Marshall Agency。 (Mar。)

Another great adventureO'Connor does it right。 Puts her readers front and center (not to mention in the middle) of family, quaint villages, lush country meadows, and excitement。 You can almost smell the fresh baked brown bread! That was a fun read。 Siobhan's nose for investigating leads her into another guard's case。。。Though it's personal, so she can't help but investigate anyway。 I loved the paintings and the scenery descriptions。 Wish there were illustrations。。。 <3 I love the dialogue between Siobhan and Dara, especially when they start bantering。 The humor in these books keep me so entertained。 Happily I did not find any errors in my copy of the book, yay! I can't wait to read more Irish Village Mysteries!! *SPOILER That was a fun read。 Siobhan's nose for investigating leads her into another guard's case。。。Though it's personal, so she can't help but investigate anyway。 I loved the paintings and the scenery descriptions。 Wish there were illustrations。。。 <3 I love the dialogue between Siobhan and Dara, especially when they start bantering。 The humor in these books keep me so entertained。 Happily I did not find any errors in my copy of the book, yay! This installment in the series is good: Siobhan, MacDara, and Siobhan's siblings are like old friends。 But the action in this one takes us to a small village where we meet MacDara's cousin, whose mother has been murdered。 Neither the aunt nor the cousin are especially likable。 Neither is anyone else in the village, for that matter。 The hostility of the village was palpable, and the much-needed comic relief never came to the rescue。 This installment in the series is good: Siobhan, MacDara, and Siobhan's siblings are like old friends。 But the action in this one takes us to a small village where we meet MacDara's cousin, whose mother has been murdered。 Neither the aunt nor the cousin are especially likable。 Neither is anyone else in the village, for that matter。 The hostility of the village was palpable, and the much-needed comic relief never came to the rescue。 。。。more

The setting for Murder in an Irish Cottage felt authentic and I did like the lore that was included with the story。 I enjoyed Siobhan O'Sullivan as a character and I also liked her siblings very much。 The mystery in this story starts when Siobhan joins Dara after he received a phone call regarding his estranged aunt。 Together they travel to another town to find answers to what happened to his aunt。 Despite not being welcomed into the actual investigation, that doesn't stop them from jumping in a The setting for Murder in an Irish Cottage felt authentic and I did like the lore that was included with the story。 I enjoyed Siobhan O'Sullivan as a character and I also liked her siblings very much。 The mystery in this story starts when Siobhan joins Dara after he received a phone call regarding his estranged aunt。 Together they travel to another town to find answers to what happened to his aunt。 Despite not being welcomed into the actual investigation, that doesn't stop them from jumping in and doing whatever they can to piece together the clues of what happened to Dara's aunt。 Along the way secrets are revealed and sinister intentions put loved ones in the path of danger。 。。。more

A beautiful story featuring Siobhan O’Sullivan secretly engaged to Macdara。 He gets a frantic call from his cousin, Jane。 There has been a terrible tragedy, Aunt Ellen has been found dead in a red dress in her cottage and the prime suspects are fairies。 I enjoyed the story immensely。 I love Caroline Lennon’s beautiful narration。

After finishing the fourth book in the series, I was sadden to see that Amazon was selling book #5 at a price I wasn't willing to pay。 However, my local library came through and I was able to borrow the Kindle version of the book。 Yea me!I wasn't sure that I was going to enjoy the book。 The beginning of the book really didn't "capture" me and if it wasn't for the fact that I really love this series, I may not have finished it。But the more I read the book, the more my interest was piqued and the After finishing the fourth book in the series, I was sadden to see that Amazon was selling book #5 at a price I wasn't willing to pay。 However, my local library came through and I was able to borrow the Kindle version of the book。 Yea me!I wasn't sure that I was going to enjoy the book。 The beginning of the book really didn't "capture" me and if it wasn't for the fact that I really love this series, I may not have finished it。But the more I read the book, the more my interest was piqued and the ending。 Yowza! It was fantastic。Mac's aunt is found dead。 He and Siobhán drive over to the village to see if his cousin Jane needed his help。 Siobhán finds out that Jane is blind, but very independent and full of anger and snark at the world。The neighbors aren't all that friendly because Jane and her mother lived in a house that was considered a fairy crossing therefore, the house should be razed to allow the fairies free range。As a said, I wasn't all that thrilled with the beginning of the book but the middle and end of the book makes up for it。If you've read the first four books, you definitely don't want to miss this one (and the next one which I'll be reviewed above)。5 paws 。。。more

I have read several of these books recently so I could understand Christmas story in this series。 It has sort of been a waste of reading/listening time。 I love the setting, a fictional walled town in Ireland。The characters are not well developed and the romantic relationship is flirty, but doesn't have any real depth。I would not recommend this series。 I have read several of these books recently so I could understand Christmas story in this series。 It has sort of been a waste of reading/listening time。 I love the setting, a fictional walled town in Ireland。The characters are not well developed and the romantic relationship is flirty, but doesn't have any real depth。I would not recommend this series。 。。。more

Can faeries kill? That's the question when a cranky woman is found dead in her cottage。 The local villagers blame faeries & insist that the cottage must be destroyed, but Irish Garda Siobhan O' Sullivan believes that the murderer of her fiance's estranged aunt is flesh and blood。 The case may be out of her jurisdiction, but that won't stop her from winding her way through the tales of a cat of characters who all seem to have something to hide。 A fun, mystical romp through the Irish countryside! This was an interesting story that could have been better, but was very easy to read。 The characters are developed and interesting。 The plot is easily followed within it's twists and turns。 The area is know for it's magical presence, whether real or imagined。 I feel others might get more out of the story than I did, but I certainly don't think my time was wasted。 Yes, I do recommend this book and feel the author has something to teach us。 This was an interesting story that could have been better, but was very easy to read。 The characters are developed and interesting。 The plot is easily followed within it's twists and turns。 The area is know for it's magical presence, whether real or imagined。 I feel others might get more out of the story than I did, but I certainly don't think my time was wasted。 Yes, I do recommend this book and feel the author has something to teach us。 。。。more

Another good one from O'Connor。 The mystery is solved with the whole O'Connor family again。 I am wondering about how Siobhan and Macdara are going to make it since she is always keeping secrets from him。 It reminded me of some of the anthropology I learn about in Elly Griffith's books。 The explanation of the fairy legends including circles, trees, roads was fascinating。 I would like to visit some of the ancient sites in Ireland whenever we can travel again。 Another good one from O'Connor。 The mystery is solved with the whole O'Connor family again。 I am wondering about how Siobhan and Macdara are going to make it since she is always keeping secrets from him。 It reminded me of some of the anthropology I learn about in Elly Griffith's books。 The explanation of the fairy legends including circles, trees, roads was fascinating。 I would like to visit some of the ancient sites in Ireland whenever we can travel again。 。。。more

I absolutely adore this cozy mystery series and once again I was thoroughly delighted by this book! Kind of a cozy, which I dislike, but plenty of Irish atmosphere。 The previous four novels in the series have built up a history for the two main characters, both Garda, and their families。 Especially hers。 I got the sense that the five siblings have been carefully crafted but now they’re developed the author has a hard time using them in any meaningful way。 The story is a bit complicated, way beyond belief, lots of suspects with weak motives but it wasn’t horrible。 Too many characters for sure b Kind of a cozy, which I dislike, but plenty of Irish atmosphere。 The previous four novels in the series have built up a history for the two main characters, both Garda, and their families。 Especially hers。 I got the sense that the five siblings have been carefully crafted but now they’re developed the author has a hard time using them in any meaningful way。 The story is a bit complicated, way beyond belief, lots of suspects with weak motives but it wasn’t horrible。 Too many characters for sure beyond the family members who keep popping up。 Not terrible but I won’t be waitin for the next one。 。。。more

Maybe it was the added element of fairies but the mythology definitely amped up the suspense for me。 Carlene O’Connor has become my go-to author for comfort reads。 I love her writing and the setting。 There’s always a bit of humour and I think the world of Siobhán。 She’s a smart, capable Guarda and I think a worthy heroine to look up to。
